Racing for a Cause is an awareness and fundraising campaign to benefit APFED.  The primary goal of the campaign is to create awareness of Eosinophilic Disorders, using all means available to teach others about these disorders and how to recognize the signs and symptoms.

The campaign has drawn an enormous amount of attention since it began.   It is estimated that since the start of the campaign over 5 Million people have been educated about Eosinophilic Disorders through public appearances, media, and special events.

The campaign also raises funds to support APFED in the education of both physicians and the general public about these disorders.  Currently, due to the lack of knowledge and understanding in the medical community, many patients continue to suffer for years while trying to obtain an accurate diagnosis and treatment.

The Racing for a Cause Campaign was founded in 2009 by then 7 yr old Ricky Springer.  Ricky was born with an Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disorder called Eosinophilic Colitis.  Because of the lack of knowledge within the medical community about these disorders, Ricky suffered for the first 21 months of his life, seeing 18 different doctors who were unable to diagnose his illness.  Thanks to the assistance provided by APFED, Ricky’s parents were able to locate a physician who was finally able to provide a diagnosis for Ricky and determine appropriate treatment.

Because of Ricky’s battle to obtain a diagnosis and treatment, in 2009 he decided to do something to make a difference for others who are still suffering.  As a dirt track go-kart racer, Ricky began using his racing as a platform to educate others and raise money to support APFED.

In 2010 the campaign grew larger than ever expected, with Ricky traveling throughout the Eastern US, making appearances with his go-kart to educate others.  Other racers around the country have joined Ricky and helped to establish the Racing for a Cause Team, all promoting the campaign by running with the Racing for a Cause logo on their cars.

It is Ricky’s dream that every pediatrician, family doctor and specialist in this county knows how to recognize the signs of an Eosinophilic Disorder and provide appropriate treatment, so that others aren’t left to suffer needlessly like he did!

“NO ONE should suffer and live in pain like I did!” -

Ricky Springer
